WHEN (AND WHY) TO FOLLOW UP?
In most cases, colleges do not expect frequent communication after your application is submitted. However, sending one meaningful update can be appropriate, and even helpful, if you have something substantial and new to share.
A new honor or award received since submitting the application
A recent leadership achievement (e.g., being nominated for the Silver Knight Award, being elected captain of one of your teams, club president, or organizing an impactful event)
A notable improvement in academic performance, such as first-semester senior year grades
A published article, research result, or creative project
A competition result (e.g., science fair, music competition, robotics tournament, etc.)
Once you have submitted your college applications, it is essential to shift into monitoring and communication mode, which involves following up with colleges.
